"It's Hard Work, but it Pays Really Well"
The oil and gas – or petroleum – industry is truly multinational. In every newspaper just about every day there are articles about some

aspect of the petroleum industry. One can learn from reading these articles that the majority of the world's oil comes from places in the Middle East like Saudi Arabia, the United States, Russia, Canada, and Iraq. Despite the global nature of the industry, the types of jobs are very similar regardless of where in the world you are.

With the rise of China and India demand for refined petroleum has never been higher. Gas prices are high and rising, as demand outstrips supply. Oil companies are forced to find ways to extract more oil from known reserves and to find new ways of getting oil. In Canada, for instance, they have found a way to remove oil from what are called 'oil sands' in Alberta. There is ongoing talk in the United States about opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska to exploration and drilling. Additionally, more offshore rigs will be built and put into operation.

Remember offshore work is not for everyone. It requires that you be away from home, sometimes for weeks at a time. More often than not, the drilling vessel you are on will not even be in sight of land. It involves long and hard hours, working in all kinds of weather and conditions as well as in some dangerous situations. Being 100 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico in the middle of a hurricane is a frightening experience for sure!

On the plus side it is very rewarding and exciting. The food is good, the quarters are clean and well kept, and the benefits and opportunities for advancement are excellent. It is not uncommon for a person starting at the bottom with no previous oil field experience to be making $60,000 to $80,000 a year, and that is for working only six months out of the year

What Our Reader's Said:
"Two weeks ago I came to the end of a project and started looking for work again. I have a lot of industrial experience, but none on oil platforms. I don't know anyone in the business. I can't drive all over the world knocking on doors. I spent a little bit of money and about 1 to 2 hours visiting most of the company links, most recruiters, the resume eventually took on life of it's own. Actually I got a second inquiry today from SGFGlobal; I've told them I'm going out with Danos and Curole. I'm now working on the Gulf of Mexico out of Houma, LA. My investment in finding a six figure income turned out to be less than an hour's pay. What a deal! Rigworker has been invaluable Thanks,

"I would like to thank you so much for all the help and information you provide with your memberships. I signed up for the shortest membership a little skeptical that it would really help at all, considering I had no direct oil industry experience. I looked through all of your directories, job postings, and had my resume posted with Rigworker. Within two weeks I was being called for interviews. I just got back from my first hitch offshore and my wife handed me messages from even more oil companies calling for interviews! Thanks for delivering on every promise made on your site and for helping me get started in a very promising, hot career!"

"Since joining Rigworker I have actually been able to find entry-level jobs (Instead of wasting my time going around in circles.) that I wasn't able to find before, giving me a real chance at an offshore job with minimal experience. Also to know what information oil field employers are wanting from my resume and how to send it out to the right companies with confidents."
